People were buying muscle cars as fast as they were coming off of the assembly line back in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. This had been an exciting time for both the muscle car manufactures and also for the customer.
In the middle of the 1950’s there were different cars that had been named as being performance vehicles. Some people had not been too happy with the new performance vehicles. Many people ended up supping up their Model T cars to have them run faster. This had helped the muscle car be born.
When there had been an established market for muscle cars the car industry had started making cars to satisfy this market. The first attempt to a muscle car had been a light weight car having a powerful engine dropped down into it, a car that had been built for speed and power.
This was a time that muscle cars were for anyone they had been very inexpensive. Any working man could have their muscle car for work during the week and then on the weekends turn into a dragster on the weekends. remember that in these times there had not been any emission controls, computer chips ad it had been a time that any man or woman could fix this powerful engine.
The best family car with a big block engine had been the Road Runner, Chevelle, and Charger. Cameros had also been used for a family car for any young family that had some younger children. The Corvette and the Cobra were the cars that had been made for original muscle cars.
The muscle car had become less popular when fuel had started to rise in the 1970’s. The muscle cars being less popular had much to do with insurance costs getting higher and there had been a lot of safety issues. There are many people that grew up in this time and they can remember muscle cars like it had been just yesterday that they heard, smelled, and even drove one.
